Mary Bowman Hampton

Mary Bowman Hampton was appointed Senior Vice President for University Marketing on April 6, 2026. In this role, she serves as the University’s chief brand steward, leading its marketing and communications strategies. She oversees the Office of Marketing Communications, which publishes The Mercerian; manages The Den, the University’s daily news and feature website; and directs Mercer’s website, social media channels, media relations, graphic design, photography, videography and arts marketing functions.

Hampton joined Mercer following a 23-year career with Cox Communications, where she most recently served as Director of Corporate Communications and Community Relations. In that position, she led national campaigns and served as the division’s liaison to the James M. Cox Foundation. Prior to this role, she oversaw public affairs across the Southeast and Midwest as a regional director.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, a Master of Mass Communication degree from the University of South Carolina, and executive strategist and artificial intelligence certifications from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and Ragan Communications. An active leader in civic and professional organizations across Georgia, Hampton is an alumna of Leadership Georgia and Leadership Macon. She has received numerous professional honors, including recognition as a Macon Magazine “5 Under 40” honoree, and has served on a variety of nonprofit and community boards.

Hampton and her husband live in Macon with their two children.
