To our loyal Mercerians, we understand that COVID-19 may have disrupted your plans for careers and/or advanced study. As you are considering your next steps, we want to help by offering a special pathway toward a graduate degree at Mercer.
Mercer undergraduate students who completed degree requirements in spring or summer, and alumni who graduated within the past three years, may be eligible for a special consideration pathway opportunity to begin a Mercer master’s degree program in Fall 2020.
Extend your impact as a Mercer Bear, and continue moving toward your educational and professional goals. Mercerians were made for times such as these.
- Scholarship covering 40% of catalog tuition rate each term, for the entire length of the program, for eligible programs
- Waived application fee for eligible programs
- Waived GMAT/GRE/MAT test requirement for most eligible programs*
- Priority registration for Fall 2020 courses
- Priority admission consideration for applications received by August 7

School of Business
Mercer University’s Stetson-Hatcher School of Business delivers career-focused business education programs designed to shape students into innovative leaders who are responsible global citizens. Evening Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Mercer’s Evening MBA programs provide an interactive environment in which students and faculty apply diverse real-world experience to coursework to enhance the learning experience. College of Education
Mercer’s Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) effectively equip graduates to succeed as educators. The M.A.T. is ideal for individuals entering the field of teaching from other vocations or areas of study. It is also an option for those who are already in the classroom seeking initial certification. The M.Ed.program is designed for currently certified educators seeking to enhance their teaching credentials to provide better support for their students. Designed for non-education bachelor’s degree holders seeking to teach young children in grades Pre-K through 5, the M.A.T. in Elementary Education offers course content and field experience to prepare teachers to support the diverse needs of young students. Completion of the program and passing scores on the appropriate Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) approved Content Pedagogy Assessment and GACE Content Assessments lead to eligibility for Level 5 certification. The M.A.T. in Middle Grades Education is intended for non-education bachelor’s degree holders seeking initial teacher certification at the master’s level. Course content and field experiences prepares individuals with the specialized skills needed to teach and support students in grades 4-8. Program completion and passing scores on the appropriate Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) approved Content Pedagogy Assessment and GACE Content Assessments lead to eligibility for Level 5 certification. Mercer’s M.A.T. in Secondary Education is designed for non-education bachelor’s degree holders seeking initial certification at the master’s level. The course content and field experience equip teacher candidates with the knowledge and skills needed to teach grades 6-12. Candidates may choose from secondary education certification fields in biology, chemistry, earth/space science, English, geography, history, mathematics, physics, political science, or trade and industrial education. Successful program completion and passing scores on relevant assessments lead to eligibility for Level 5 certification. Similar to the M.A.T. in Secondary Education, this degree is designed for graduates of non-education bachelor’s degree programs who are seeking initial certification at the master’s level. The M.A.T. in Secondary Education – 5th Year is a cohort format and is ideal for recent college graduates. Expanded secondary education certification fields in biology, chemistry, earth/space science, English, geography, history, mathematics, physics, political science, or trade and industrial education prepare individuals to support students in grades 6-12 in the field of their choice. The M.Ed. in Secondary Education is designed to expand levels of knowledge, skills, and dispositions in secondary education among currently certified educators in grades 6-12. Individuals learn to become a leader and are prepared for Tier One Educational Leadership Certification in Georgia through the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership. Upon program completion, students are eligible for leadership positions up to the assistant principal within the school, or a variety of district-level leadership positions that do not supervise principals. The Townsend School of Music on the Macon Campus offers professional music studies in a comprehensive university environment. Program Admission Criteria
- Undergraduate degree requirements are met with at least 32 semester hours completed at Mercer.
- Overall grade point average of 3.0 required (including any transferred hours); overall GPA of 3.0 in all courses completed at Mercer; overall 3.0 GPA in all core curriculum courses (if applicable), and overall 3.0 GPA in all courses at Mercer in declared major.
- Students admitted through the pathway must maintain at least half-time enrollment throughout the program for eligibility.
- Check with your admissions counselor regarding any program-specific criteria.
*Counseling programs not eligible for testing waiver
Most programs begin classes the week of August 17.
