Mercer’s M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling prepares professionals in this field to work with children, adolescents, and adults dealing with a variety of life stresses and problems, including: self-esteem, addiction/substance abuse, age-related mental health issues, depression, and other emotional or behavioral issues. This program prepares individuals for licensure in Georgia and includes an intensive internship experience through client interaction under supervision.

Mercer’s M.S. in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling prepares candidates to provide rehabilitation services aimed at helping individuals with disabilities to achieve their maximum potential. This program empowers individuals to make informed choices, to help individuals achieve positive mental health, and to maximize opportunities for economic independence.

Mercer University’s College of Health Professions (CHP) and College of Pharmacy (COP) offer the Doctor of Pharmacy/Master of Public Health (PharmD/MPH) combined degree program. For qualified students in the COP, students can pursue a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree concurrently with the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. The PharmD degree is earned through the COP and the MPH degree is earned through the CHP.

The MPH degree program is designed to develop students into competent, passionate professionals ready to address the complex and dynamic challenges of public health in neighborhoods and populations in the U.S. and world. The MPH degree will complement the PharmD degree in a manner that will broaden the occupational and professional opportunities of the prospective graduate in community, industry, or institutional practice. The program has been carefully developed to permit concurrent pursuit of both the PharmD and the MPH curricula.

Physical therapists provide services that develop, maintain and restore a person’s maximum movement and functional ability across the lifespan. Mercer’s innovative eight-semester Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program provides a comprehensive entry-level professional education, including an integrated clinical education track that consists of service-learning, clinical experiences, and clinical internships.

Mercer University’s College of Health Professions and Stetson-Hatcher School of Business present the Doctor of Physical Therapy/ Master of Business Administration (DPT/MBA) combined degree program. The role of the physical therapist in administrative and business aspects of practice is increasing. Particularly in the private practice sector, clinic managers and directors have the responsibility for the administration and financial health of the practice. In addition, with doctoral level training, physical therapists are well positioned to assume administrative responsibilities in many health care organizations. An MBA would greatly enhance the physical therapist’s ability to effectively perform these roles.

Graduates of this program will be empowered to serve the needs of individuals and society while being well positioned to understand the current administrative and leadership environment in which they will engage. Sharing the goal of ethical business and practice, this combined degree program will strengthen the knowledge and ability of graduates to function in a global health care market.

Students admitted to the DPT/MBA program will complete both degrees in 4 years.

The role of the physical therapist in health promotion and wellness is increasing, as is the role of the public health practitioner in addressing societal health concerns, and evaluating community-based programming. Sharing the goals of promoting wellness and health promotion, advocating for improved health of individuals and society, reducing health disparities, and improving the quality of life for families and communities, students in the DPT/MPH combined degree program will be challenged to confront complex health issues, such as improving access to health care, and reducing environmental hazards and injury.

The five-year Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology program is designed to produce graduates who are eligible for licensure as practicing clinical psychologists, particularly in interdisciplinary healthcare settings. Clinical practice provides students with conceptually and empirically based assessment, intervention, and consultation experiences. The program has established training partnerships with a variety of academic healthcare centers, hospitals, community mental health centers, correctional facilities, university counseling centers, and independent practices across a variety of specialties.

Mercer University’s College of Health Professions offers the PsyD/MPH combined degree program. This innovative combined degree program addresses the ongoing mental healthcare provider workforce shortage by preparing graduates to provide cost-effective, evidence-based mental healthcare to diverse populations within Georgia. This program is structured around one specific goal as stated in the Healthy People 2020 objective: “Improve mental health through prevention and by ensuring access to appropriate, quality mental health services”. Innovative programs such as the PsyD/MPH combined degree program address issues within the healthcare delivery system that are essential on both local and national levels. The curriculum plan facilitates preparation of mental healthcare providers who are able to address public health concerns and evaluate community-based programming.

The Doctor of Public Health (Dr.P.H.) program explores epidemiological and health equity concepts. It also emphasizes engaging communities to improve health outcomes to allow every person to attain full health potential without disadvantage due to social determinants of health. Students admitted to the Dr.P.H. program with a concentration in Diverse Populations and Health Equity will be poised to lead organizations, and design, implement, and evaluate health programs envisioned to benefit disadvantaged and minority groups.

The Doctor of Public Health (Dr.P.H.) program explores epidemiological and health equity concepts. It also emphasizes engaging communities to improve health outcomes to allow every person to attain full health potential without disadvantage due to social determinants of health. Students admitted to the Dr.P.H. program with a concentration in Social Epidemiology will be prepared to lead efforts that consider social and structural determinants of health to demonstrate the effects of privilege, racism, and other injustices on the health of diverse populations.

Family Therapists are mental health professionals trained in psychotherapy and family systems, and licensed to diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders within the context of marriage, couples and family systems. The Master of Family Therapy Program provides the conceptual and practical foundation that prepares clinicians to work from a wide variety of philosophical perspectives, theoretical orientations, and clinical modalities, all with sensitivity and responsiveness to diverse contextual factors that impact healthcare.

The global health studies major addresses the health of global populations and communities through instruction, service, and community-based projects. Students build skills directly applicable to the field of public health and build knowledge in research methods, international relations, and the social and behavioral sciences.

The Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics familiarizes students with a unique blend of healthcare and data management, providing a competitive advantage in two very distinctive, but intertwined career fields. The program can be completed within four courses, allowing professionals to remain productive at work while obtaining the educational requirements needed for certification.

Mercer’s B.S. in Health Informatics establishes knowledge in designing, developing, and validating software specifically within healthcare environments. Students learn to transform data into actionable information and are challenged to consider the ethical implications of technologies within healthcare systems. Comprehensive coursework generates a deeper understanding of the performance of healthcare systems through data and computing methods.

Health informatics focuses on the application of information technology to deliver effective, efficient, and sustainable healthcare services. Through the M.S. in Health Informatics program, you will develop professional knowledge and skills in the following areas: electronic data interchange (EDI) technologies, interoperability standards, risk assessment, clinical decision support systems (CDSS), tele-health, healthcare software requirements specification, systems analysis, and design. This program is available fully online.

The Master of Science in Health Outcomes is a 30 credit, fully online degree program that offers two tracks: pharmacoeconomics or health outcomes research. Students will take courses covering topics including biostatistics, epidemiology, qualitative and quantitative research methods, health economics and health care delivery systems.

The M.S. in Organizational Leadership is designed for aspiring or existing leaders from diverse professions and backgrounds, who are interested in advanced leadership positions in the public or private sectors. With a concentration in Leadership for the Healthcare Professional, students learn to build a continuous organizational system for sustainable health care delivery as well as financial health in their organizations.

The B.S. in Kinesiology develops students’ understanding of the focus on the scientific study of human movement based on the study of anatomy, physiology with application to movement analysis, fitness assessment, performance enhancement, and rehabilitation. Students will graduate with a degree that may be used to seek entry-level employment in healthcare or to further education in the graduate health sciences.
