Interdisciplinary Centers

As part of its vision to achieve national prominence and thereby enhance the academic reputation of the entire institution, Mercer University will develop a number of distinctive programs. These programs encourage interdisciplinary dialogue and further collaborative research among disciplines. These programs will educate leaders who are well-equipped to address the challenges of the 21st century.

As an initial step toward achieving this goal, Mercer made $250,000 available as an AIM fund for new interdisciplinary initiatives. The 2008-2009 AIM Fund Recipients are as follows:

  • Center for Translational Studies in Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Neurodegenerative Disease
    Pilot Project: 2008-10, Collaborative faculty from Psychiatry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Biology, Mathematics, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology
  • Center for Advanced Biomedical Prototyping
    Feasibility Study: 2008-09, Collaborative faculty from Engineering and Medicine
  • Center for the Teaching of America's Western Foundations
    Feasibility Study: 2008-09, Collaborative faculty from Political Science, Philosophy, Education, History, Economics, and Great Books
