August 21, 2020
The University has now completed its process of COVID-19 screening and testing for students returning to campus for the fall semester. All residential undergraduate students in Macon were required to be tested as they returned to campus before the beginning of classes, as were other students whose screening survey results suggested the possibility of coronavirus infection. A total of 4,229 students from all campuses were tested between July 20 and August 19, with 103 receiving test results indicating infection.
As part of the University’s initiative to make COVID-19 testing available to all employees, since July 20 a total of 263 faculty and staff on all campuses were tested for potential exposure to coronavirus, whether at home, in the community or at work. Of the 263 tested, 15 returned positive results.
The University is not aware of any students, faculty or staff screened and tested during this process who has required hospitalization.
