COVID-19 Testing and Screening for Unvaccinated Students and Employees

July 7, 2021

The health and well-being of our students, faculty and staff remains our top priority. As a Mercer family, we must all do our part to uphold and adhere to established protocols to respect others and support the health and safety of all Mercerians and visitors.

If you are unvaccinated for COVID-19, you will receive an email over the summer with specific instructions on testing and screening for the beginning of the fall semester.

To identify and respond quickly to a possible campus outbreak, the University has implemented mandatory surveillance testing for unvaccinated students and employees during the fall semester. You may get tested on campus at the Campus Health Center or off campus at a different testing facility.

Unvaccinated Macon traditional undergraduates and unvaccinated graduate students living in University housing or the Lofts (Macon) will be surveillance tested each week. The University will continue to monitor the conditions and adjust this requirement as conditions warrant.

Exceptions to surveillance testing include:

  • students and employees who are fully vaccinated for COVID-19
  • students who are enrolled in totally online programs/classes or off-campus internships/field experiences (with no other classes on campus)
  • students and employees with University-approved accommodations who are learning/working remotely from home
  • students and employees who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 90 days

If you are testing on campus, please click on to schedule an appointment at the Macon or Atlanta Campus Health Center. If you would like a list of testing facilities near the Henry or Douglas centers, please contact the Provost’s Office at Savannah and Columbus medical students and staff may get tested on their respective campuses.

If you are testing off campus, please remember that the test must be a nasal swab PCR test. Rapid antigen tests and antibody tests will not be accepted. Email your results to Mercer Medicine at In the subject line of the email, type “Macon Test” (for Macon, Savannah, and Columbus students) or type “Atlanta Test” (for Atlanta, Henry, and Douglas students). Please include your full legal name and MUID in the body of the email.

Symptoms Screening

Students and employees must self-monitor their symptoms daily. Anyone who experiences symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should be tested immediately either on campus at the Campus Health Center or off campus at a different testing location.
