Georgia Psi was the 22nd chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity founded in September 1870, and was the first on the campus of Mercer University.  The chapter is known in the Phoenix as the chapter that, "died so many times, everyone stopped counting."  The Fraternity was suspended from the Mercer campus back in 1989.  In 1994, thirteen young men decided to bring back the legacy of Sigma Alpha Epsilon to Mercer's campus.  These men held their first few meetings in their dorm rooms while petitioning the National Office for colonization.  Their determination was initially rewarded by being recognized as a colony that same year.  The culmination of their efforts occurred on May 3,1997, when Georgia Psi was reinstated as a Chartered Fraternity.  The brothers worked hard to regain the charter, having to overcome many obstacles with the National Office and Mercer. We survived these obstacles and have now gained full recognition and respect from the National Office and Mercer University.  The Lion sleeps no longer!
