Honor Council
Hearing Process
- Faculty member or student reports the alleged Honor Code violation to the Chief Justice or Faculty Advisor.
- Chief Justice assigns a Justice to investigate the alleged violation.
- The assigned Justice contacts the student to gather information, review the procedure, and schedule a hearing.
- Honor Council hears the case.
- Honor Council deliberates with one of the two outcomes:
- Not Responsible: Student receives an immediate verbal notification followed by an official written notification.
- Responsible: Student receives an immediate verbal notification of the decision and the sanction and then will receive an official written notification. The student then has an option to appeal the decision:
- No Appeal: The Honor Council maintains a student record of the violation until the student graduates from Mercer.
- Appeal:
- The student submits a written appeal to the Dean of his or her college or school.
- The Dean appoints a representative to investigate the criteria of the appeal.
- The student receives written notification.
