Campus Health Care Services
Campus Health Care Services (CHS) is designed to provide limited services for acute illnesses, and treatements and medications during regular hours of operation for currently enrolled students. Students are encouraged to visit the Campus Health Care Service for evaluation, treatment and referral of medical problems. The CHS is staffed by a Family Nurse Practitioner, one Registered Nurse, and an Administrative Assistant, all supported by underwitten protocols of a physician consultant. A physician is on site for one half day per week for visits and consultations if necessary by appointment.
Students should be aware that health services will be billed to either or both student health insurance, or private health insurance. Payment for services not covered by insurance, such as lab tests or medications, is the responsibility of the student. Students enrolled at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences are required to maintain health insurance coverage while enrolled.
Campus Health Care Services is located on the second floor of Sheffield Center (Room 206). Please address any questions or concerns to the Director of Campus Health Care Services, Rita Williams.
Residence Life
On campus apartments house 184 students in three buildings. Apartments come in one-, two- or four-bedroom units. Each individual has separate telephone, internet, and basic cable hookup. These services along with all utilities are included in each month's rent. Apartments are furnished and include an all electric kitchen. The apartments are located directly across the street from the Sheffield Center. For more details, please consult the Residence Life web page.
Student Advising Program
The student advising program is under the direction of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions. This program provides information for successful matriculation and professional development of students, and key faculty members are utilized as resource personnel. The Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions may also be consulted to discuss any academic or personal problem that may arise. In addition, professional counseling services are available on the Cecil B. Day campus for all students enrolled.
Counseling Services
Professional counseling services are offered free of charge to students enrolled at the Cecil B. Day Campus of Mercer University. A mental health counselor is available to help individuals who may be experiencing stress caused by the social and academic pressures of being a student. Counseling services also offer confidential assistance with many other issues, including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, chemical dependence, marital discord, interpersonal relationships, and self-esteem.
Appointments with Harriette Fulton or Julie Cannon may be made by calling the Counseling Center at (678) 547-6060 or online on the Counseling Center's web page.
Job Placement
An advantage of attending professional school in Atlanta is the extensive job market. Many students supplement their financial needs and gain experience by working in one of approximately the many independent/chain community pharmacies and hospitals in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The Student Affairs and Admissions Office maintains an electronic bulletin board of available positions. This includes part-time employment during the school year as well as summer internships.
Among the many ways we can help you secure employment after graduation is Career Day, which is held annually during the spring semester. Fourth professional year Pharm.D. candidates have an opportunity to make important contacts and conduct actual job interviews at this event. Beforehand, students are given assistance in interviewing skills, resume writing, dressing for success, general orientation and questions to ask or to avoid.
More than 30 companies send recruiters here on Career Day to seek our graduates. These include representatives from retail/chain pharmacies, pharmaceutical industry, hospitals, government agencies and the military. This response from employers is testament to the quality of education you can receive at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Justifiably, we are proud of our record in educating men and women for the pharmacy profession and of their records of success.
