Student Right-to-Know Act
Graduation/Completion Rate Report

  March 12, 2009

In accordance with the Higher Education Act, Mercer University is pleased to provide the following information on the graduation/completion rates of our 2002-03 cohort of full-time, first-time, degree seeking undergraduates, and student athletes receiving athletic financial aid.

While reviewing the information, please keep the following in mind:

·        Graduation/completion rates are calculated by tracking a cohort of new, first-time, full-time, degree-seeking students for six years (150% of normal time to completion of a 4-year degree).  If a student completes a program at Mercer by August 31 of the sixth year, the student is counted in the completion rate.

·        Mercer University offers several distinct 4-year undergraduate degree programs open to first-time students.

·        Our "traditional" program is offered on our campus in Macon, Georgia; it is a daytime program geared toward traditional age students, the majority of whom are attending college for the first time.

·        A continuing education program geared toward older students is offered evenings and weekends at regional academic centers around the state of Georgia.

·        Our campus in Atlanta offers a BSN in nursing.

·        Graduation/completion rates do not include transfer or part-time students (the majority of students in the continuing education and nursing program enter as transfer students), and do not reflect outcomes after the 6-year period.

·        Mercer has elected not to report transfer-out rates because our university’s mission does not include providing substantial preparation for students to enroll in other institutions.

·        Graduation/completion rates do not include students who left school to serve in the armed forces or on official church missions or with foreign aid service of the federal government, or students who died or were totally and permanently disabled.
