Beall's Hill Demographics
Although an actual census takes place only once every 10 years in the United States, population data are available for many geographic units and at regular intervals through population estimates and projections. These data are synthetic and they are produced by combining data from the most recent census with various measures of population change (births, deaths, & migration), symptomatic data (e.g. - housing starts and utility connections), and/or assumptions about likely demographic change. Because the data are synthetic, estimates and projections are prone to unknown amounts of error and should be used with caution. As a general rule, projections are more prone to error because the assumptions being made about them stem from "best guesses" about future trends in various components of population change. (L.G. Pol and R.K. Thomas. The Demography of Health and Health Care, 1992. * Aggregate of block groups 106.003 & 114.001 The socioeconomic measure (SEM) is indicative of socioeconomic status (SES). This measure is an index ranging from 0-100 and considers several variables including income, education, occupation, housing value, and area demographics. Therefore, the higher the SEM, the greater the SES.
