All students are required to complete the CLA Core and depth requirements. The additional requirements for math majors and minors are below.

Elective Suggestions
- If you are planning to pursue graudate study in mathematics, it is recommended that your electives are selected from MAT 320, 330, 335, 350, 462, and 482
- If you are planning to pursue a doctoral degree, it is recommended that you take GER 111-112 or FRE 111-112.
- If you are planning a career in applied mathematics, it is recommended that your electives are selected from MAT 320, 330, and 335. In addition, MAT 225 is recommended.
- If you are planning to teach secondary matheatmcis, you must take MAT 320 and MAT 350. MAT 225 is recommended. See the page for educators of mathematics for more details.

- MAT 260: Introduction to Abstract Mathematics, plus two 320+ electives
- MAT 225: Topics in Discrete Mathematics, MAT 340: Linear Algebra, plus one 320+ elective
Department Honors
Majors may attain Department Honors in mathematics by satisfying:
- Apply for admission to the honors program during second semester of the junior year
- GPA of 3.50 in all mathematics courses applied toward the major
- Enroll in MAT 402 and complete a research paper under the direction of a faculty member in the department
- Present results of the research in colloquium
- Receive departmental approval for the research project
