About Lambda Chi Alpha

Information About Zeta-Omega Zeta
GENERAL CHAPTER

Lambda Chi Alpha was founded at Boston University in 1909 and has become the 3rd largest Fraternity in the Nation. Lambda Chi was colonized at Mercer University as the Zeta Omega Zeta Chapter in 1947 and chartered in 1950. In 1985, the fraternity lodge, located where what is now the University Center, caught fire and was completely destroyed. Brothers, Alumni, local Fraternities, and national donors pulled together to build a new lodge which stood until May 2000 when Mercer tore down Greek Row in preparation for its replacement, Greek Village, in August 2000. Lambda Chi Alpha celebrated its re-chartering at Mercer in 2001. We also had the honor of initiating the 200,000th brother of Lambda Chi Alpha in 1991. Recently, Zeta Omega won the Dean's Cup in 2003 and 2005, recognizing the best fraternity on Mercer's campus and in 2004 won the Intramural Cup, recognizing the winning of IFC 2003-2004 Intramurals.

PHILANTHROPY

Lambda Chi Alpha partners with the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank to raise canned goods and fiscal donations for Macon's needy. Each year we hold several fundraisers and conduct a city-wide Food Drive. Our Philanthropy, known nationally as the North American Food Drive, is the largest of its kind in America.

SOCIAL

"All work and no play" isn't a phrase you'll hear around Lambda Chi often. After all, isn't college also about having fun and being yourself? Each year Lambda Chi Alpha holds some of the best parties on campus. Just ask the girls! From our almost-famous annual Blackout party, to wild Formals, to our Ice Breaker Party, Lambda Chi's Social Chair never fails to satisfy.

ACADEMICS

We place a high priority on academic performance. In fact, statistics show that if you join Lambda Chi you WILL have a higher GPA than someone who does not. At Lambda Chi, you'll find help in nearly any subject. We have Brothers in almost every field of study with a heavy focus on Business, Political Science and Engineering.

Symbols of Lambda Chi Alpha

Coat of Arms
Coat of arms originated as family emblems, then cities, societies, and institutions adopted them. All college fraternities have them, but few have created their design with such faithful adherence to the laws of the ancient art of heraldry as has Lambda Chi Alpha.

The Badge
The badge is a pearl-set crescent with horns turned toward the left, enclosing a monogram of the Greek letters Lambda, Chi, and Alpha. The center of the crescent bears the Greek letters Delta and Pi in gold on black enamel. A variety of jewels may be selected for the Lambda.

Associate Member Pin
The associate member pin has a most interesting history because it embodies the official badge of Theta Kappa Nu as well as the original new member pin of Lambda Chi Alpha. The original Lambda Chi Alpha pin was a gothic arch, and with the union, this was superimposed upon the triangles composing the official badge of Theta Kappa Nu.

The Seal
The seal is used to identify official General Fraternity documents and publications. It should not be used for decoration, as an ornament for jewelry, stationery, etc., unless it is to be used as the official stationery for the General Fraternity. It is now properly used on charters, membership certificates, and authorized publications of the General Fraternities.

The Flag
The Lambda Chi Alpha flag may be flown on appropriate occasions or placed on a wall. Chapters may place their Zeta letters in the upper right corner to identify their flags.

The Recognition Button
Unlike many fraternity recognition buttons, that of Lambda Chi Alpha is neither a miniature coat of arms nor a display of the cutout letters. It is a special design showing the cross and crescent combined. It is worn only on the left lapel of a suit jacket or sports jacket. Its original purpose was to permit members unknown to each other to recognize the common bond when the badge was not worn or was obscured by the jacket without "boasting to the world" of one's fraternal ties.

The Friendship Pin
The cross and crescent with shield bearing the Greek letters pin was originally designed to be worn by girlfriends of members when the relationship had not yet reached the state of engagement or marriage. Today, the pin also is worn by members who have not purchased a badge, or by members who prefer its design.

The Flower
The Fraternity flower is the white rose.

The Colors
The Fraternity colors are purple, green, and gold

The Creed of Lambda Chi Alpha

We believe in Lambda Chi Alpha, and its traditions, principles and ideals. The crescent is our symbol; pure, high ever growing, and the cross is our guide; denoting service, sacrifice, and even suffering and humiliation before the world, bravely endured if need be, in following that ideal.

May we have faith in Lambda Chi Alpha and passion for its welfare. May we have hope for the future of Lambda Chi Alpha and strength to fight for its teachings. May we have pure hearts, that we may approach the ideal of perfect brotherly love.
