Professor Gardner studies the social and cultural history of the American South, specializing in the history of women. She teaches in African American Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, directs the Lamar Lectures on Southern history and culture, and co-founded the Southern Studies concentration.  She is also advisor to the Honors Program.
