Each FYS section has a fourth hour per week—or fifth, for the experiential sections—which the instructor can use for workshops, meetings, or other purposes.

For the last two years, Jonathan Glance's FYS 101 class has met in the Media Center's Teaching with Technology classroom during that extra hour, so that the students could learn how to use the computers with web design and multimedia software. The final assignment was to use that software to create a project about the FYS program.

At the end of the semester, groups of students presented their work to each other. Here are a few examples of what they came up with.
