Preceptor Syllabus FYS 301/302 Fall 2001 People
in charge: Duties: A preceptor will carry out the duties which are to be determined by the FYS teacher in consultation with the preceptor. In addition, a preceptor must be a model student, must attend every class, read every assignment, and be prepared to discuss the material intelligently. A preceptor should read the material at a greater depth than the students of FYS and should bring this depth to the class discussions. A preceptor should be available to give constructive feedback on all writing assignments. A preceptor may be asked to handle community-building issues such as drawing out shy students or moderating over-talkative ones. The preceptor should give feedback to the FYS teacher and should engage the teacher in discussions on pedagogy. Assignments: The preceptor is required to attend a retreat and two discussions which will be centered around pedagogy and to turn in a two?page essay, which reflects on the preceptor's experience, at the end of the semester. If you are unable to attend, you must talk to either the coordinator or director. The article to be discussed can be picked up a week in advance from Bobbie Shipley in IDS.
