
Drills and Exercises for Oxford Latin Course
1. FLL Language Lab
a. Vocabulary
On the master screen, double-click on the icon “Latin Voc Drill 2.0 OLC 1-2” (for OLC chapters 1-25) or the icon “Latin Voc Drill 2.0 OLC 2-3” (for OLC chapters 26-54).
These programs offer you vocabulary drills from English to Latin and from Latin to English, with the possibility of asking for hints and printing out a scorecard. You may also want to take a look at the short essay entitled "Why Latin?".
b. Grammar
On the master screen, double-click on the icon “Latin Flash Drill 3.0 OLC.”
Here you find drills for the endings of nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and verbs. The program also includes a useful reference guide on Latin grammar.
c. Pronunciation
- Get CD-ROM “Latin Now” from lab assistant
- Insert CD-ROM into CD-drive
- On the master screen, double-click on the icon “Language Now”
- Click on “Listen and Speak”
- Click on “Word Pronunciation” or “Sentence pronunciation”, respectively
- Select a title: choose “Latin for Beginners” (or any of the others) and click on “ok”
- Segment range: choose “Entire title” and click on “ok”
- You will hear a Latin word or sentence.
- Click on the microphone icon and hold it down for the entire thirty seconds: Repeat the word or sentence, speaking into the microphone (make sure the microphone is on “on”)
- Click on the lower loudspeaker icon to hear your recorded word or sentence
- (Click on the upper loudspeaker icon to hear the original again)
- Click on “Next” and continue
- To exit: Click on “File” --> “Exit”
2. Internet
- a. The Web site [http://www.umsl.edu/~phillips/oldrills/index.html ] offers a variety of grammar exercises for each of the OLC chapters. It also links you to sites with more general Latin exercises.
- b. Under [ http://artemis.austincollege.edu/acad/cml/rcape/latin ] you will find the Internet workbook for OLC, which has vocabulary and grammar drills for all OLC chapters.
