state-of-the-art FACILITIES & Resources

Student labs provide TCO students with excellent places to work on independent or group projects.

The Technical Communication department employs state-of-the-art technology and resources to bring you a top-flight education.

TCO students benefit from two labs designed specifically for students within the TCO department. These labs include a top-of-the-line multimedia lab featuring web design and graphic design software available for student use as well as a high-tech usability lab. The usability lab, created in 2004, contains both usability hardware and software including separate stations for usability participants and usability observers.

TCO students may also make use of video editing workstations purchased by the department in 2006 that are housed in the School's Instructional Technology Lab.

In addition to laboratories, many technical communication courses are held in the School's multimedia classroom, which features new hardware and software purchased in 2006 including a new Polyvision interactive whiteboard and presentation system.

Furthermore, TCO students have access to an extensive TCO library. The library contains materials relevant to the technical communication profession, such as journals and publications, as well materials produced by students over the years, such as intern reports, intern journals, and student work. Internship materials are excellent resources for students preparing for their own internships. This combination of resources puts a wide array of knowledge at students' fingertips, supporting our goal as a department which is to aid students in their studies and help them succeed in the educations and careers.

Finally, TCO students have access to the facilities and resources common to all departments within the School, which is a wireless hotspot on campus. These include computer laboratories, lounge areas, and classrooms. These areas were expanded upon completion of the new Science and Engineering Building. This new facility was completed Spring 2007.
