the mercer difference Unlike many schools who offer environmental engineering at only the graduate level, Mercer's School of Engineering allows you to delve into environmental studies at the undergraduate level. One of the few undergraduate programs in the southeast to do so, the Bachelor of Science in Engineering with an environmental specialization brings you, the student, courses in the field you want, when you want it, without requiring you to wait four years to pursue a Master's degree or doctorate. Students benefit from opportunities to gain hands-on experience in environmental engineering topics including fieldwork and research. Such opportunities make them more competitive applicants should they choose to pursue a graduate degree in environmental engineering and marketable candidates for positions within industry. The School of Engineering's small class sizes and outstanding faculty further distinguish the School. The one-on-one attention faculty give to students ensures students are well-equipped to tackle real-world issues in industry. Greater attention from faculty also translates into greater engineering opportunities. Students compete in national engineering competitions, earn public exposure for successful senior design projects, and attend/present at societal conferences. Engineering faculty take a personal interest in the success of each of their students, making the close-knit learning environment at the School of Engineering one of its greatest assets. Finally, students benefit from a solid foundation in mathematics, sciences, and general engineering courses. This foundation is uniquely structured to prepare them for engineering practice and is designed to allow graduates to perform well within interdisciplinary teams. Furthermore, the technical communication course students take provides them with the skills to communicate effectively both orally and on paper. These courses, in combination with specialty electives, produce skilled and highly trained engineers.
