2007 Region III Fall Regional Conference in Jackson, MS

NSBE – Region III hosted its Fall Regional Conference (FRC) at the Jackson Marriott in Jackson, MS on October 26-28, 2007. The theme of the 2007 FRC was "Igniting the Torch: Engineering in Action". Attendees participated in several exciting activities, such as career and health fairs, competitions, step shows, workshops, and much more!

Six members of Mercer's NSBE Student Chapter attended the conference. Also in attendance were Dwayne Smith, Chair, Central Georgia NSBE Alumni Extension, and Denise Malone, Web Editor & Sr. Secretary in Mercer's School of Engineering. Here's what some of them had to say:

I was greatly impressed by the number of activities and workshops held during the conference. There were numerous events for collegiate members, alumni, high school students, non-engineering members -- everyone! Saturday's career fair gave me the opportunity to express my passion for mechanical engineering to several companies, including General Mills, Procter & Gamble, Honda, Toyota, Texas Instruments and many more, and after a long day of workshops the chapters could finally relax and mingle at the nightly parties. We met members of various NSBE chapters from around the southeastern United States. So needless to say I really enjoyed the 2007 Fall Regional Conference and am looking forward to the 34th Annual National Convention in Orlando, FL in March, 2008. Orlando better be ready 'cause we're going to CRANK THAT M UUUUU! --Jasmine Lawrence, President, NSBE, Mercer Student Chapter

I really enjoyed the conference. It was a great experience to get my name out there and I enjoyed networking with the different companies. I also enjoyed networking with the other schools' chapters and the Region Exec Board. I enjoyed Carl Mack speaking, and I also liked the Sunday breakfast and worship service. I didn’t get to talk with everyone I wanted to talk to, but overall the trip was a success for me because I did interview with General Mills and I think it went very well. I can’t wait until next year!!! --Victoria Burroughs, Vice President, NSBE, Mercer Student Chapter

My role at the conference was to accompany and support the members of Mercer's NSBE Student Chapter. I see so many young people who are not using their abilities to better themselves; therefore, when I met this group of young people who are trying to accomplish something, I could do nothing but support them. I want to see them succeed in life, and will do whatever I can to help them.
--Denise Malone, MUSE Web Editor/Sr. Secretary
