"I entered the field of Communication Studies by way of my undergraduate activities in debate and argumentation.  Argumentation led me to the study of philosophy, and philosophy led me to the study of rhetorical theory and semiotics.  I took my first course in communication theory in 1978; after that, I was hooked.  The more deeply I have explored the event of human communication, the more complex the mystery of human communication has become.  For me, the greatest attraction of teaching lies in letting students in on this mystery."
