Making an Impact "My experience as Community Development Intern with the Mercer Center for Community Development prepared me professionally, as I gained an appreciation for the many complex roles and partnerships involved in building and sustaining a thriving, healthy community. More importantly, I learned that community engagement is not a hobby or leisure time activity, but a responsibility — a permanent obligation — of all who are members of that community."

- Charidy Vinson, '01 Atlanta Communications Officer Georgia Institute of Technology

Volunteerism and Tutoring

Carpenters

Mercer students have long been active in the community on their own through student organizations, from philanthropy efforts of Greek organizations and honor societies to student chapters of service organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. In addition to volunteer opportunities, students eligible for Federal Work Study may be eligible to complete work study serving as a tutor at a local school or as an intern for a nonprofit organization.

How to Get Involved

The Center for Leadership and Volunteerism (in the lobby of the Connell Student Center) serves as the clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities and community work-study for the Macon Campus.
