
Bratcher Named Dean of University Commons at MercerDr. Margaret Dee Bratcher has been named Dean of the University Commons, a new University program funded by a grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc., to help students recognize their life's calling in light of their faith, education and abilities. Bratcher's appointment, which took effect July 1, was announced by Dr. Russell G. Warren, Mercer University Provost. Bratcher most recently served as interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts. "We are fortunate to have someone of Dr. Bratcher's experience and stature here at Mercer to take on this exciting new role within the University," Warren said. "She has the right blend of academic experience and ministerial training and sensitivity to help students in their search for spiritual meaning in their chosen vocation." Bratcher is a professor of Christianity, teaching at Mercer since 1985. She earned a bachelor of arts from Wake Forest University and master of divinity and doctor of philosophy degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. An ordained Baptist minister, she is an occasional preacher and teacher in churches throughout the country. She is the author of the commentary on the book of Joel in the Mercer Commentary on the Bible and the article on Genesis in the Mercer Dictionary of the Bible. Mercer
