Mercer's Executive Forum to Bring Stellar Lineup of Speakers this Fall

Editor's Note: Media interested in covering this event or interviewing Soledad O'Brien should contact Lance Wallace at (478) 301-4037.

Celebrating its 22nd anniversary as Georgia's premier business enrichment program, The Executive Forum's fall lineup includes Soledad O'Brien, co-anchor Weekend Today, NBC's top-rated weekend morning news program; Roger Dow, senior vice president of Marriott International; and Rebecca Paul, president/chief executive officer of the Georgia Lottery Corp.

O'Brien will kick-off the fall series at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Macon Centreplex. A Harvard University graduate, O'Brien also anchors MSNBC's Morning Blend, a two-hour news talk show on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and reports for the Nightly News during the week and on weekend editions. She also contributes to MSNBC.com and is the contributing technology editor for USA Weekend Magazine.

Named to Irish American Magazine's 1998 "Top 100 Irish Americans" list and awarded the Hispanic Achievement Award in Communications in 1997, O'Brien has covered a number of breaking news stories for both NBC and MSNBC, including special coverage of John F. Kennedy Jr.'s plane crash, the high school shootings in Littleton, Colo., and Springfield, Ore., and the fatal Alabama tornadoes. She also traveled to Cuba in 1998 to cover the Pope's historic visit.

O'Brien hosted MSNBC's Emmy Award-winning program, The Site, devoted to the technological revolution in 1996. Prior to joining MSNBC, she was a reporter for KRON-TV, an NBC affiliate in San Francisco where she co-hosted Discovery Channel's The Know Zone. From 1991-1993, O'Brien worked for NBC Nightly News and Today. She began her career as an associate producer and newswriter at the then-NBC affiliate WBZ-TV in Boston.

A member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, O'Brien is also a part of The Digital Heroes Campaign, an innovative new e-monitoring program, which is partnering some of America's most prominent individuals with young people in underserved communities. Through The Digital Heroes Campaign, and in association with People Magazine and America Online (AOL), they hope to focus attention on the importance of mentoring our nation's youth.

Dow is scheduled to speak at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Baptist Student Union and Paul is set for 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Medical School Auditorium. The events are open to Executive Forum members and their guests. Anyone interested in becoming a member can call the Mercer University Office of University Advancement at 478-301-2715.
