MACON, GA -- Several Mercer University seniors were honored at the 2001 Student Leadership Awards Ceremony held April 6 in Macon.
Michael D. McCord of Suwanee received the "Papa Joe" Hendricks Award . This award recognizes those students who have played an active role in encouraging the hearts of their fellow Mercerians and have been dedicated in unifying the student body and contributing to the campus.
McCord, a psychology and Christianity major, is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the Wesley Foundation, president of Central South Task Force, minister of music at Centenary United Methodist, founder and chair of the Organization of Central South Churches, board member of the Core Neighborhood Revitalization and chair of the Community Advisory Council to Mercer Center for Community Development. He is the son of Sandra McCord of Suwanee.
Allison Goodspeed of Lilburn received the Outstanding Leadership Award. Goodspeed, a marketing major, graduated from Parkview High School and is the daughter of Johnnie and Phillip Goodspeed of Lilburn.
Timothy A. Slocum of Waycross and Ashlee H. Smith of Tifton each received the Mercerian Award. This award recognizes those Seniors who have excelled academically while still making Mercer a better place through their involvement and contributions to the campus community. Slocum, a biology major, is the son of Andrew and Christy Slocum of Waycross. Smith, a biomedical engineering major, is the daughter of Travis and Cheryl Smith.
Brandi L. Brown of Thomasville received the College of Liberal Arts Dean's Choice Award. Brown graduated from Thomas County High School and is the daughter of Robert and Cindy Horne of Thomasville.
Shea McGukin of Carrollton received the School of Business and Economics Dean's Choice Award. McGukin graduated from Central High School and is the daughter of Tim and Sharon McGukin of Carrollton.
Beth Bartlett of McRae received the School of Engineering Dean's Choice Award. Bartlett, an engineering major, graduated from Telfair County High School and is the daughter of John Bartlett of McRae.
