Mercer Offers Continuing Education Courses in Douglas County

More than 100 non-credit courses and certificate programs are being offered this spring and summer at Mercer University's Douglas County Center, 975 Blairs Bridge Road, Lithia Springs, just south of I-20, off Thornton Road.

Provided through the University's Division of Extended Education, courses cover organizational leadership, computer training, business, test preparation and personal enrichment. A sampling of topics include "Starting a Spare Time Business," "Microsoft Project 2000: Level I & II," "The Art of Effective Non-verbal Communications," "Learning Front Page," "PRAXIS I Verbal" and "Flirting 101."

Certificate programs in supervision and accounting are also available. The Certificate in Supervisory Practices and Techniques is a 36-hour, 12-week series, with classes held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning May 17. The course covers leadership, motivation, conflict resolution, management of change, performance appraisals, planning and time management, team building, progressive disciplinary action, communication, delegation, decision making/problem solving and employee coaching.

The Certificate in Accounting is designed to provide a basic and solid foundation in accounting principles while emphasizing technical knowledge and applications. Held Saturday mornings, starting June 2, courses include elements of accounting I and II, payroll administration, tax accounting, Peachtree accounting, Quickbooks Pro 2000, Excel and business communications.

Registration fees vary by course, with registrants allowed to pay by cash, check or credit card. Individuals can register by mail, fax, phone, online or in person.
