The Board of Directors of the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education has re-elected Hewitt W. "Ted" Matthews to a second term as secretary/treasurer of the organization. Matthews is professor and dean of Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy, located in Atlanta.
Matthews has been active with ACPE since 1981, having served on its Committee on Continuing Education, as a field reader for the Continuing Education Accrediation Program, as a member of numerous accrediation site teams and as an ACPE evaluation team member. He has served on the ACPE Board of Directors since 1997.
The ACPE is the national agency for the accreditation of professional degree programs in pharmacy and for the approval of providers of continuing pharmaceutical education.
Located in Atlanta, Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy was the first pharmacy school in the Southeast and the fifth in the nation to offer the doctor of pharmacy degree as its sole professional degree. It is one of nine schools and colleges of Mercer University, one of the largest Baptist-affiliated institutions in the world and the only private university of its size in the nation to offer degrees in the areas of liberal arts, business, education, engineering, law, medicine, pharmacy, nursing and theology.
