Steinberg, who held the highest grade point average in his class, received the doctor of pharmacy degree during the commencement.  Steinberg has been on the Dean's List each semester of his four years at the Southern School of Pharmacy. He also is the recipient of the Oliver M. Littlejohn Award, the Minnie M. Meyer Award and the M.A. Chambers Award.

Two doctor of philosophy degrees and 105 doctor of pharmacy degrees were awarded at the May 2 commencement. Henri R. Manasse Jr., executive vice president and chief executive officer of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, delivered the commencement address.

The Southern School of Pharmacy is located on Mercer's Cecil B. Day Campus in Atlanta. In 1981, it became the first institution in the Southeast and the fifth in the nation to offer the doctor of pharmacy degree as its sole professional degree.
