Holding true to the ideals under which we were founded, Phi Mu strives to be the best in everything we do. Philanthropy is one such area in which we shine! Philanthropy has always been an important part of Phi Mu's creed and heritage. Phi Mu ladies have been actively volunteering as early as the Civil War when Philomatheans nursed and aided soldiers and civilians. In 1921, the Phi Mu Healthmobile was adopted as a national philanthropic project. The Healthmobile was equipped with a doctor and a nurse who would treat and educate people in rural Georgia. The program was so successful that the state of Georgia took over and enlarged and funded the Healthmobile. In 1963 Phi Mu Fraternity adopted Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) as its national Philanthropy. Project HOPE is a boat that travels in 19 developing countries and teaches medical personnel the latest developments in Western medical science. Phi Mu's went from just helping people in rural Georgia, to helping people worldwide. In 1986 Phi Mu adopted a second national philanthropy, The Children's Miracle Network ( CMN). The Children's Miracle Networks only goal is to improve the quality of life for children. Since 1986 Phi Mu has raised more than three million dollars for seven hundred children's hospitals in North America. In 1998 CMN became Phi Mu's primary national philanthropy. Also, in 1998, Phi Mu was proud to be the first NPC group to establish National Philanthropy Day during the month of October. Annually, Phi Mus gather to share their skills and energies to make the world a better place by dedicating themselves to "hands on" community service. Phi Mus everywhere can be proud of the part their Fraternity plays in continuing the proud tradition of giving, caring and sharing. Throughout each semester, our chapter offers aid to these organizations, sponsoring dessert socials, buffet dinners, car washes, and other fundraising events in their name. Our chapter also provides philanthropic services to organizations throughout Georgia, such as the American Heart Association, Up Til Dawn, Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, and the Macon Salvation Army Safe House.
