placement and internships

The Technical Communication's internship program is one of the most valuable requisites in the program. Providing students with real-world experience, our internship program allows students to put into practice the lessons they have learned in class while giving them unparallelled learning experiences and preparing them for postgraduation life. As a student, you benefit from opportunities to:

  • Intern with highly reputable companies in a variety of industries.
  • Distinguish yourself from others with similar degrees.
  • Network and make lasting professional contacts.
  • Put into practice the project experience gained through classroom exercises.

Although a few students elect to complete year-long part-time Senior Design Projects, most undergraduate students opt to secure a full-time, semester-long internship in industry as part of their degree requirements due to the overwhelming advantages of gaining work experience as a student. Students must become actively involved in finding their internship, with help from both the departmental faculty and Career Services. For more information on specific internship requirements, refer to the syllabus for TCO 496/498.

The real-world experience students gain through our internship program truly makes a difference in their success as graduates. Our department boasts 95% job placement of its undergraduate majors, in field, within three months of graduation. In times of recession and slowdown of the economy, placement has fallen as low as 85% right after graduation--still a respectable average!
