student spotlight The accomplishments of our students are very important to us at the School of Engineering. Please join us in congratulating one of two 2006 Outstanding Graduates among engineering students with a specialization in Computer Engineering, Clint Doriot.
Clint Doriot graduated from the School of Engineering in May 2006 Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a specialization in Computer Engineering. One of two 2006 Outstanding Graduates within the specialization, Doriot was inducted into the Order of the Engineer and was on the President's List or Dean's List every semester during his undergraduate career. While an undergraduate student, Doriot was very active in the School and his major, serving as treasurer for Mercer's chapter of IEEE and as a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. He also served two years on the Binary Bears Programming Team and further supplemented his curricular activities by helping to organize and run IEEE's tutoring program for computer and electrical courses. In 2005, Doriot was accepted into a summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program at the University of Florida's Machine Intelligence Lab. There he worked independently and on a team to complete two small robots. This experience was a great segway into his senior design project where he worked with a team of four engineers to complete an autonomous robot to compete in the 2006 IEEE Southeast Convention Student Hardware Competition. The team was highly successful and placed fourth in a field of over twenty schools. Of his undergraduate experience, Doriot is extremely pleased by the education he received at Mercer. "I greatly appreciate the wonderful engineering foundation I got at Mercer. The focus on engineering fundamentals, problem solving, and proper communication, coupled with approachable, student-centered professors is what makes Mercer's Engineering Program really shine. And the value of the relationships I've built with some of my fellow students and the faculty cannot be overstated," says Doriot. Doriot will continue his studies in computer engineering at Georgia Tech in the fall, where he was accepted into the Computer and Electrical Engineering graduate program on a $12,000 teaching assistantship. He is also considering pursuing his doctorate, as he enjoys both teaching and research. |
